GeoGroups For Businesses Or Organizations
|
Regardless of the kind of business your organization is in, there are times when some employee needs to keep track of another employee.
Some examples:
- When any of your employees are engaged in hazardous or dangerous jobs.
- Or you might be a company with large numbers of field personnel who either need to be tracked centrally, or collaboratively.
- Or you may be responsible for security or management at geographically large workplaces like amusement parks and event hosting convention centers.
If you have tried the typically available consumer location sharing tools, you will have realized how quickly they become unwieldy because of having to maintain huge buddy lists on every device. Imagine, a new employee joining will require adding that new employee to every existing device's buddy list.
When using GeoGroups, all you need to do is create a private group for your organization, and centrally add all employees and manage all configuration and permissions. Now all permitted employees will be able to view other permitted members' locations, along with other important points of interest like customer locations and so on.
The group can even be configured to only allow central headquarters to view everyone's location. In such a configuration, individual employees may only update their location in the group, but not see anybody else's location.

GeoGroups For Organizations
Setup
- Create a private group for your organization
- Add your location data to it.
- Make every employee a group member.
- Mobile employees use the GPSToday app(or any 3rd party app using the API) on their phone to keep their location updated in the group.
Result
- All members can now track mobile employees from their desktop or any mobile device.
- Mobile employees can access all other employees locations, as well as all proprietary static or dynamic location markers added to the group.
- All employees, mobile or otherwise, can communicate with each other via the inbuilt geogroups messaging subsystem.
Example scenario
A real estate firm with 30 employees.
- Create a private group for the firm
- Add managed properties to the group, each property as one post on the map. Each post can contain all custom information about the property, like number of beds, baths etc, and also as many pictures as needed to catalog the property.
- Agents in the field use GPSToday on their phone
Result
- Now all agents can access all properties directly on their phone, and even demo the property to customers anywhere by showing pictures on the phone itself
- Now all agents can see where everyone else is at any given time.
- Comments can be left on each property which are visible to other agents in the group. This can be used as a common activity logging mechanism. Like, "Showed this property to the Smiths at 3:00pm 06/21/09".
- Agents can communicate privately with other individual agents, private messages may optionally contain embedded location markers.
- Agents can add new properties from the phone itself on the spot, and attach live pictures taken immediately to the property
- Agents can set a 'GeoAlert' on their phone to popup a notification whenever any or specific agents or properties are coincidentally nearby.
